High drama at function attended by Jagathy Sreekumar

The wheelchair-bound veteran Malayalam film actor Jagathy Sreekumar, today appeared at a public function for the first time since his accident in 2012, even as there was high drama as his second daughter rushed to the stage to hug and kiss him.

Sreelakshmi, a budding actress herself later said she had not been allowed to meet her father by his family all throughout the last three years.

The organisers were taken aback at first on seeing a young girl in jeans and a white top rushing to the stage, hugging the actor and planting a kiss on his cheek.

The function was organised by former government chief whip, P C George to honour students who had scored well in the 12th standard exam.

George's son is married to the actor's elder daughter.

Sreelakshmi, whose mother was once close to the actor, told television channels that her father has improved a lot after treatment, recognised her and could understand what she was saying.

Sreekumar, who has acted in at least 1,500 films, had met with a serious road accident in March 2012 at Kozhikode which left him seriously injured.

He was hosptialised for a year and is still under treatment. The mishap has kept him away from films.
